Mateusz Szczurek, PhD, a Board Member of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego since 2024, graduated from the University of Warsaw and the University of Sussex, earning his Ph.D. in Economics. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Columbia University. He has lectured at the University of Sussex, Warsaw, and the Warsaw School of Economics. He is a CASE research team member and an expert in the Polish Employers’ Organization. Since 2016, Mateusz Szczurek has been a member of the European Fiscal Board. The same year, he became the Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. From 2013 to 2015, he served as the Minister of Finance of Poland. Earlier, from 2011 to 2013, he was the Chief Economist for Central and Eastern Europe at ING Bank and Poland’s representative to the OECD Business and Industry Advisory Committee. From 1997 to 2011, he worked at ING Bank Śląski S.A., including as Chief Economist. Mateusz Szczurek is the author of numerous publications and has delivered talks on economics, finance, and fiscal policy.
